Devin McCourty - Unsigned 2010 draft picks are automatically tendered the rookie salary of $320,000.
July 29, 2010 update The Boston Globe's Albert Breer blogged that "We've got the numbers for Devin McCourty's deal, per NFLPA documents, and as a practical matter, they look like this ...

TOTAL: $10 Million. There's a $3.2 million escalator on the back end that brings you to the five-year max total of $13.2 million...As the contract reads right now, McCourty has salaries of $1.25 million, $1.5 million, $1.75 million and $870,000 from 2011-14 and they're all guaranteed. Once the Patriots pick up that option, the numbers revert to those above and only his 2011 salary is guaranteed

July 23, 2011 update McCourty's 2011 and 2012 salaries were at the minimum or below the new minimums. Therefore, they were increased to $450,000 and $540,000 respectively as part of the new CBA.

November 29, 2013 update On November 10, 2013 ESPNBoston.Com's Mike Reiss reported "One of the trickle-down effects of Patriots safety Devin McCourty's Pro Bowl-type season through nine games is that his 2014 salary is going to spike considerably. As part of the five-year deal he signed as a rookie in 2010, McCourty had $3.2 million in "escalators" for the 2014 season. He's already earned an additional $50,000 for next season, bumping his base salary up to $920,000, and if things continue on their current course the salary will ultimately be closer to $3.5 to $4 million".

January 22, 2014 update On January 22, 2014 Brian McIntyre tweeted "To clarify, McCourty had over 80% playing-time in EACH of the last years. That feat added $3M to 2014 base. His cap number is now $5.115M"

March 9, 2015 update Aaron Wilson tweeted that "Devin McCourty base salaries: $2.5M, $4.5M, $6.5M, $7.5M, $9M; $31,250 roster bonus per game active 2015 to 2019" "Devin McCourty got a $15 million signing bonus on $47.5M deal, $28.5M guaranteed with $2.5M, $4.5M salaries in '15, '16 fully gteed" "$5 million of Devin McCourty $15 million signing bonus deferred to March 31, 2016". Joel Corry tweeted "Devin McCourty's 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 cap numbers are $6M, $8M, $10M, $11M & $12.5M."

September 11, 2016 update Learned from a tweet from The Boston Globe's Ben Volin that "Source: #Patriots restructured Devin McCourty's deal on Fri. Converted $3.74m of base salary into signing bonus. Created $2.8m of cap space"
My note - the Patriots gained $2,805,000 in 2016 cap space in exchange for increasing each of McCourty's future cap numbers by $935,000.

A call for a donation

A long-time family friend, my youngest sister's best friend, is on the board of directors of a soup kitchen and food pantry in Malden, Massachusetts that provided in 2015 the equivalent of 1,030,000 meals to hungry, homeless and isolated people. I am asking that if you have found my salary cap pages useful that if you are able to do so, please make a donation to the Bread of Life soup kitchen/food pantry.
